Yesterday afternoon, Thomas of My Porch kindly had Teresa of Shelf Love, Lifetime Reader of Lifetime Reading Plan and yours truly over for a most lovely late afternoon tea. Our wickedly funny and detail-oriented host made all the treats himself - the cake you see, the sandwiches, the most amazing scones I have had in a long time. Absolutely delicious!
Soon (well, not too soon) the food was cleared away to make way for a friendly game of It Was a Dark and Stormy Night, a game where you have to guess the book or author (or both if you play really hardcore) from the first lines alone. Trickier than you might think. Tricky enough that we decided to play in pairs. Lifetime Reader and I took on Thomas and Teresa. It doesn't matter who won (LTR and I did) or who plays fast and loose with the rules (Thomas, child at heart). It was just great fun to talk books and bloggers and a host of other things with such smart and charming company.
But as engaging as the people were, it was our host's dog, Lucy, that stole my heart a little. To meet her is to understand why Thomas loves her so much. Many thanks to Thomas for all the thoughtful details!
