People close to me shy away from buying me books for gifts. They will still occasionally treat me to one of the big offerings of eye candy of which I am so fond though. So here I am post-holiday with two beauties to keep and one on loan from a friend. The gorgeous book you see above, Botanica, reminded me instantly of some of the lovely photographs posted by Cornflower from time to time. Howard Schatz's botanic images are almost dreamlike in their beauty. It will have you prematurely yearning for spring, and rushing to the 2009 seed catalogs that have already begun to appear in my mailbox.
Annie Leibovitz At Work provides the usual voyeuristic delight we expect from the famed photographer but also provides insight into her work process. Still paging..... See something different each time.
Friend Molly has lent me this lifestyle book by Amy Butler who has her own cult following amongst textile design lovers. Big, gorgeous photographs spark many questions (and inspirations) as to how we choose both the basics and ornaments of our lives. Intriguing mix of the scripted (both traditional design concept as well as a lot of representation of Butler's own textiles) and the unique.
Three pieces of eye candy and three pieces of fiction all at work at the same time. I do love a two week break!
