One of those everybody is doing it type of things. Which in no way should detract from the reading experience. But have come to realize this week after some gentle pushing that perhaps it is not sufficient to merely own a copy or set of Bolano's 2666. One needs to actually READ the behemoth. The whole thing. Not just popularly quoted excerpts.
Claire and Steph are kindly inviting us all to read along with them. Check their posts for rules and guidelines and observations. Always love a shared read so here I go. Next week. Really. Look, they set a schedule and everything so I have to after publicly declaring I will. Goes like this:
So the plan is to read one book a month. The schedule is as follows:
May ~ Part 1: The Part About the Critics, pp. 1-160
June ~ Part 2: The Part About Amalfitano, pp. 161-228
July ~ Part 3: The Part About Fate, pp. 229-350
August ~ Part 4: The Part About the Crimes, pp. 351-634
September ~ Part 5: The Part About Archimboldi, pp. 635-894
Check out the New York Times review for a little more insight into the work than I am offering here right now. I would actually need to read it in order to have some insights. And I am going to read it. Starting next week.
